The Top 10 iPhone Apps for Photographers in 2017

As a photographer, your iPhone camera may have come in quite handy when capturing unpredictable moments. Sometimes the best camera is the one you have with you at any given moment. You’ve undoubtedly taken some great shots on your phone. But how can you transform the quality of these photos to mirror those taken with your actual camera?

It is possible. You can easily create professional and visually stunning photos with your iPhone camera by taking advantage of a few versatile and sophisticated apps. We’ve cultivated a list of our top ten.

1. SKRWT

As an iPhone user, you may have noticed that some of the images you’ve taken look slightly distorted or bent. That is because the iPhone has a wide-angle lens.

Luckily, you can quickly correct the distortions with SKRWT. With this app, you can correct:

  • Both horizontal and vertical distortions
  • Any distortion created by wide-angles lenses like the iPhone’s
  • Converging lines

The app also has basic photo editing capabilities like cropping, rotating and straightening.

There are other apps that do this kind of editing but SKRWT specializes in this area. It is $1.99 on the App Store.

2. Camera+

Apple hasn’t invested well in its camera in terms of editing tools and features. The Camera+ app aims to overcome that by offering a wide range of advanced tools. From continuous and frontal flash, multiple exposure controls; 6x digital zoom; filters; a timer; and much more.

Camera+ is quite user-friendly. If you can use manual shooting controls on a DSLR camera, you will find using Camera+ a breeze.

Camera+ is $2.99 on the App Store but has in-app purchases of additional filters.

3. Adobe Photoshop Express

You are likely not surprised to see an Adobe Photoshop app on this list. Nobody does photo editing software like Adobe does.

Their Photoshop Express app is similar to the desktop app in terms of functionality and features. You can still use features like layers, adjustments, selection tools, adding text, effects, and merging or blending images. You do, however, have to unlock some of those features through in-app purchases.

Adobe Photoshop Express is free to download on the App Store. It does have in-app purchases.

4. ProCamera

ProCamera offers all the features the native iPhone camera doesn’t: multiple exposures, tint, a night camera, ISO sensitivity, plenty of filters and effects, and full-resolution previews. On top of that, the interface is minimalistic and very easy to use.

ProCamera is $4.99 on the App Store.

5. Snapseed

Snapseed is arguably one of the most popular photo editing apps for iPhone photographers. It has an extensive list of features as well as a powerful and streamlined editor.

It handles the basic yet vital photo editing capabilities like cropping, exposure, sharpening, and correcting perspective and distortions. Its advanced features include:

  • Removing objects from photos
  • Adjusting color and brightness in a specific part of a photo
  • Advanced editing of specific parts of a photo
  • Custom filters

Snapseed is free on the App Store but offers in-app purchases for advanced features.

6. VSCO

VSCO is well-known for its wide range of filters that allow you to quickly and easily change the look of your photos. You can apply and customize filters to get the look you’re going for.

They offer a pretty great camera with manual settings like shutter speed, ISO and manual focus. There is also a leveling tool to avoid distorting your photos.

You can publish and share your photos on the platform and discover other photographers’ works.

VSCO is free on the App Store but has in-app purchases for more filters

7. Cortex Camera

The Cortex Camera app allows you to shoot sharp, low-light and night-time photos without the need for a tripod.

When you shoot in low light or at night, the iPhone camera increases the ISO so that more light gets to the sensor. That unfortunately produces grainy and sometimes blurry photos. The Cortex Camera app has electronic image stabilization capacity which removes the noise and graininess in your photos. Its camera captures multiple images then blends them together to create clear and sharp photos.

Cortex Camera is $2.99 on the App Store.

8. Superimpose

Superimpose allows you to combine or blend two different images together. You can also combine two different editions of the same photo in a creative way.

For example, you can import one photo as a background and another as a foreground, then edit or mask out parts of the foreground to achieve your desired shot. It has advanced masking and blending capabilities, similar to those you’d find in Photoshop.

You can also add objects to your photo.

Superimpose is $1.99 on the App Store.

9. TouchRetouch

TouchRetouch is lauded for its cloning and editing capabilities. You can manually remove unwanted items (like dust spots, wires and flares) from photos. You simply paint over any area you want to remove and the app will cover the area with surrounding pixels.

It is a great app to use if you want to create stunning yet simple and minimalistic photos.

TouchRetouch is $1.99 on the App Store

10. Mextures

Mextures is the premier iPhone app for adding textures and grains to your photos. It offers a wide range of textures, grains and light streaks.

They are all fully customizable so you can combine and layer as many textures, grains and light streaks as you want. You do need to play around with the app a little to get the most out of it as the possibilities are endless.

Mextures is $1.99 on the App Store.

Wrapping Up

All of the apps covered in this article will help you to shoot and edit amazing photos on your iPhone. The apps are easy enough to use for beginners and are also advanced enough for seasoned photographers. Go with whichever app you think will help you achieve your perfect shot. Happy shooting!
